Anger Management

What is Anger Management?

Anger management treatment is the process identifying anger triggers, understanding the underlying emotions, and learning strategies to manage anger effectively.  The goal of this type of treatment is to reduce the intensity of anger and the physiological arousal it causes, not to eliminate anger entirely. Anger is a normal response to the human condition yet we can experience anger in maladaptive ways that can harm our relationships, employment, and social connections.

What is it like?

RJ Counseling has a 12-week curriculum that is provided in a group treatment format. There are no more than 8 people to a group and you are guided through cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness based material. During groups you are asked to share your experiences, develop tools for change, and integrate group topics outside of the group in your day to day life. Individual sessions are also available upon request or if our scheduled groups conflict with employment or educational commitments.

Can I integrate anger management treatment into a substance use treatment program?

Absolutely, anger management has excellent techniques for emotional regulation, coping skills for high conflict scenarios and education regarding the biological impacts of stress. These areas complement anyone seeking a robust substance abuse treatment program and can support long term recovery.

Is this court and probation approved?

Yes, if you have a referral for anger management treatment through a court or probation order we can support you in completion and provide documentation to your referral source. We often work with local and surrounding community alternative sentencing programs, including those out of state.

How much does treatment cost?

All of our services are sliding scale and we do our best to serve everyone regardless of financial situations. We can outline payment plans that work with your budget and you can maintain consistent treatment even without payment in times of financial deficit. All program completions will be held until your services have been paid. Groups run at lower rates than individual sessions. Please contact our office for more information.
